Babymoon in Bermuda

Enjoying the beach and dinner at The Ocean Club.
Our beautiful view, dinner at Blu and baby's first dip in the ocean!
On a babymoon you never have to feel guilty about room service every morning and all of the virgin pina coladas you can handle! On our last night, we had a very romantic and delicious dinner at Fourways. The souffle was out of this world! It was so nice to have alone time, but nothing beats coming home to hugs and kisses from our little monkeys!

Purple Crying

I can't believe our sweet baby Charles will be 1 in just 2 months! The majority of his first year was a blur, literally. I think my eyelids only opened 1/3 of the way for the first 7 months of his life because I was so sleep deprived! But we survived! I had no idea how spoiled I had been with my first baby. James slept through the night at 8 weeks old, rarely cried and was very easy to please. So, when we were faced with caring for a baby with severe colic (or purple crying) we were in absolute shock.

Before I experienced colic first hand, I thought a colicky baby meant a baby who was just a little more fussy than the average bear. NOT SO! As a mother, being forced to watch your colicky baby cry without the ability to soothe them is the most heartbreaking thing in the world. Our Charles' cry was so loud and so furious that his whole body would turn bright red and shake. I never knew a tiny little baby could have the stamina to cry for such long periods of time. It was the scariest and saddest thing to watch. We tried breastmilk. We tried formula (seven formulas to be exact). We tried the Mamaroo. We tried the Rock 'n Play. We tried the stroller. We tried the Baby Bjorn. We tried the Solly. We tried countless swaddles. We tried the Magic Merlin. We tried running water. We tried doctors and specialists. We tried warm baths. We tried gripe water. We tried gas drops. We tried pacifiers. We tried acid reflux medication. We tried the colic hold. We tried the mobile. We tried it all, and yet, absolutely nothing seemed to help soothe him. Most days he wouldn't nap for more than 15 minutes at a time, would cry for hours on end, and wouldn't sleep longer than an hour and a half at night. Everyone kept telling us things would calm down after the 3 month mark, but Charles' purple crying phase lasted well into SEVEN months. James even started referring to him as, "Probably Crying." Facepalm.

It was by the far the most challenging time of my life. I felt helpless, defeated and inept. I was so sleep deprived that the only reason I was able to function was by summoning every bit of that superhuman mommy strength I could. To any other mommas out there going through this, know that there is an end in sight. Our little guy has turned into a happy, smiley, loving little boy who sleeps 11-12 hours at night. I wish I could say that we found some magic answer to cure his colic, but we didn't. Just as the doctors and specialists had told us, it is just a phase the baby will grow out of in his or her own time.

I would be remiss if I didn't give my hubby the props he deserves. 2 weeks after Charles was born he took the level 3 of the CFA and PASSED!!! In the 2 weeks leading up to his exam, he bore the brunt of nighttime crying fits, diaper changes and feedings. I had sustained an injury during the delivery and was on modified bedrest, so he also had to take care of me in the middle of the night. MFB, you are my hero! I don't know how we managed to keep our heads above water, but I would do it all over again in a heartbeat. We love our little Chip and are so overjoyed to see him thriving and loving life.

Special thanks to all of our friends and family who went above and beyond (and continue to) to help care for our darling boys!

Baby Charles' Nursery!

Wallpaper | Shades | Rug | Light | Crib | Queen Sleeper | Dresser

I have been working with House of Elliott on our new apartment and I'm so excited to see everything come to life! We went with a bit of a Palm Beach theme and green for Charles' room (thinking I can easily add pink if our 3rd is a girl!!!). His room will be open to the living room most of the time, so I wanted to keep it pretty neutral. I'm also very excited for our queen sleeper so that we can finally host guests!

Renovation Underway!

MFB and I are so excited about our new place in Yorkville! We are going from a 1 bed/1 bath to a 3 bed/2 bath, so it is going to be a huge improvement. Here are a few before and afters of the demo and some finishes I've chosen so far:

Hardwood Flooring, Kitchen Backsplash, Guest Bath Floor Tile, Master Bath Floor Tile
